- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 8 ounces mascarpone cheese
- 1 cup brewed espresso, cooled
- 1/2 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
- 24 ladyfinger cookies
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- In a bowl, whisk egg yolks and sugar until pale. Cook milk in a saucepan and gradually add to the egg mixture while whisking continuously.
- Cook the mixture over low heat until it thickens, then let it cool completely.
- In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Fold in mascarpone cheese until well combined.
- Gently fold the cooled egg mixture into the mascarpone mixture.
- In a shallow dish, combine espresso and coffee liqueur. Dip ladyfingers into the mixture briefly and layer them in a serving dish.
- Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers, then repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and mascarpone.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for best flavor.
- Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder.
