Tornado Cake Recipe

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour three round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
  4. Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.
  5. Fold in the chopped pecans and evenly distribute the batter into the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
