  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 can cherry pie filling
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth.
  3. Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and almond extract and mix until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Spread half of the batter into the prepared baking dish, then pour the cherry pie filling over the top.
  7. Dollop the remaining batter on top of the cherries and spread gently.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Allow to cool before slicing into bars.

Notes

  • For added flavor, sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
