- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 cup almond flour
- 4 large egg whites
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon blue food coloring
- 1 cup butter
- 3 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
- Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
- In a bowl, sift together the powdered sugar and almond flour.
- In another bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add granulated sugar and cream of tartar, continuing to beat until stiff peaks form.
- Fold in the almond flour mixture carefully.
- Separate the mixture into three bowls and color one red, one blue, and leave one plain.
- Pipe the macarons on a baking sheet and let them sit for 30 minutes.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes.
- Let cool before filling with buttercream frosting.
