Ingredients

  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 4 large egg whites
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon blue food coloring
  • 1 cup butter
  • 3 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. In a bowl, sift together the powdered sugar and almond flour.
  3. In another bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form.
  4. Gradually add granulated sugar and cream of tartar, continuing to beat until stiff peaks form.
  5. Fold in the almond flour mixture carefully.
  6. Separate the mixture into three bowls and color one red, one blue, and leave one plain.
  7. Pipe the macarons on a baking sheet and let them sit for 30 minutes.
  8. Bake for 15-20 minutes.
  9. Let cool before filling with buttercream frosting.
